Ibanez 1976 2470 Artwood Autograph Twin Neck Electric Guitar w/Case - Ex-Gerry Beckley
This is an original 1976 Ibanez Artist prototype Special Construction 2470 Twin Neck guitar that was owned by Gerry Beckley of America. The accompanying Ibanez promo brochure shows Gerry with this Ibanez doubleneck, and you can see that it's the same guitar as this one from the design patterns in the wood.
The 2470 was a custom forerunner to the iconic 2670 Artwood Autograph Artist, which was developed from John McLaughlin's doubleneck guitar made by Rex Bogue. The 2670 is super rare- only 100 were produced between 1975 and 1980. This one is a prototype to that, and is a super clean example. The 2470 was only made for Gerry Beckley and Denny Laine, as far as I have been able to determine.
This one is original and a monster tone machine. Solid ash beveled body with cream binding and abalone inlay, Flying Fingers pickups, maple necks, ebony boards with Tree Of Life inlay, bound fingerboards, bound headstocks, and Cloud tailpieces. Just gorgeous. Each pickup has its own coil tap switch for a wide range of tones. To that end, you can choose either neck or both. Each neck has separate volume and Tone controls with a Master Volume in front. This allows you to dial in the perfect sound for each neck and adjust the overall volume. Perfect for 'set and forget'. Ibanez is known for its thin necks and this 2470 has the perfect balance between thin and tone. Each neck is .84' deep at the 5th fret with a C profile.
When it comes to Ibanez, no guitar is sweeter than the 70's Artists and this is one of the finest. This beauty features the beveled ash body- known to be a big part of that classic tone and a perfect choice here. Warm yet articulate. Enough bottom end to make the string sound huge yet enough presence to make the 12 string absolutely sparkle. Grabbing that awesome ash tone are 4 Super 80's humbuckers. These are the Holy Grail for Ibanez (and tone) lovers. Similar in tone to a PAF, the Super 80 Flying Fingers have a tone full of character. You know that incredible sound when you back off the volume on a pickup just a touch and it becomes dynamically super sensitive? That is here times four! The bridge pickup on the 6 is perfect for gain. Huge crunch. The neck position has that thick syrupy sustain. On the 12 side, the bridge pickup delivers that sparkling 12 string tone with solid bottom end.
Each pickup has its own phase switch, although the tone change is minimal. Each neck has its own volume and tone controls with a master volume for the entire guitar. This gives you plenty of tonal options. The set maple necks have a thin C profile- super comfortable. Aesthetically, this is a real head turner. Natural ash, Tree Of Life inlays on the ebony boards, gold hardware, Cloud tailpieces, full binding, and that perfect 70's Ibanez headstock shape- perfect. This guitar is in excellent condition.
This auction includes the original hardshell case and Ibanez promotional brochure. This is your chance to get your hands on a rare gem of an Ibanez Artist- Gerry Beckley's 2470 Twin Neck guitar!
