 Make Moog
Model R.A.Moog IIIc (1970) one owner!
Description How many single-owner R.A. Moog modulars are there? And how many that have had moderate use and then been stored in perfect conditions? A beautiful Series IIIC dated 1970 and owned throughout its life by Dartington College in Devon, the arts college. Funds from the sale will go to the world-famous summer school. The system comprises the following modules: Lower Cabinet: 3 x 901A Oscillator Controllers 8 x 901B Voltage Controlled Oscillators 1 x 901 Combined Oscillator and Controller 1 x 903A Random Signal Generator 1 x 907 Fixed Filter Bank 4 x Common Modules 1 x Filter/Attenuator panel 1 x Interface Panel with access to CV & Gate, switched high and low pass filters and multiple jacks 1 x 910 AC Power Supply (115V input) 1 x Trunk line link panel (not connected) Upper Cabinet: 1 x 904-A Voltage Controlled Low Pass Filter 1 x 904-B Voltage Controlled High Pass Filter 1 x 904-C Filter Coupler 3 x 902 Voltage Controlled Amplifiers 3 x 911 Envelope Generators 1 x 911A Dual Trigger Delay 1 x 912 Envelope Follower 1 x 905 Reverberation 1 x CV Interface panel 1 x VCA/Envelope Coupler 1 x Multiple jack panel Accessories: 1 x 950 Keyboard Controller 1 x 115V mains lead 3 x S-Trig male to female leads (new) Cosmetic condition of the modules is generally very good, the panels are clean and all knobs are present with their metal inserts. What surprised us is how little corrosion there is, normally on equipment of this age the black module fixing screws and jack socket surrounds have a coating of rust but there is only the faintest trace of it here. The hardwood cabinets are less pretty with scratches and blemishes on the surfaces but no heavy damage or structural problems. The upper cabinet is missing its rear cover but it should be easy enough to have one manufactured. Also the keyboard has what looks like a hastily made piece of hardboard on the rear. The entire instrument has just been serviced and calibrated by Lucid during March and April 2011. All modules are fully operational and the keyboard has new rubber bushings fitted. All slider switches illuminate when selected. A word about the 901 oscillators: Not surprisingly they sound absolutely phenomenal. However the design incorporates little in the way of temperature stabilisation. A great deal of time was spent calibrating them, and this was done with the instrument switched on for several hours at an ambient room temperature of 22C. Lucid were successful in getting all but one of the 901’s to track accurately over a 5 octave range, but the oscillators will almost certainly benefit from re-calibration once the instrument reaches its final destination - and every so often in its life, too, of course. Lucid have offered to provide further technical information and user notes to the winning bidder as required. There won't be many more chances to acquire something like this. Even one 901 VCO sounds awesome on its own; the filter sound is a cut above anything that Moog later produced; the filterbank is a classic in its own right.. and the whole feel of the instrument is unbeatable. This is history. **NB: To make this even more special, it comes with some superb original paperwork:- Large fold-out schematics for: 950, 907, 901-A, 901-B, 911, 903-A, 910, 904-A, 902, Console Panel Model 3. Specification sheets for: 901/A/B, 902, 905, 911, 911-A, 962, 961, 904, 911 General Instructions for mounting and powering 900 Series Modular Instruments Hand drawn block diagram of Moog Delay Circuit Some unrelated paperwork on 914 and 960. ** If you win, delivery from VEMIA would be the best answer, and very cost-effective in the UK and north-western Europe; or we can organise crating at cost, by a pro packing firm, for long-distance shipping.
