Synthi 100 |
Description |
Another magnificent rare classic: one of the very few EMS Synthi 100s in existence, s/n 3007. Like many other things in this auction, this is from the collection amassed by Felix Visser, former head of Synton. All items were destined for a national technology museum project, many years in the making, but finally cancelled by politicians and planners.
They have mostly been stored unused for a number of years.
This is Bruno Spoerri's famous Synthi 100, serial number 3007. There is one immediate piece of bad news: in transit from Mr Spoerri's to its present location, a speaker fell on one of the matrix panels, with the corner causing damage around a 'tick' shaped area visible in the photo. It ought to be mendable - the small broken bits have been saved, and the matrix panels are made so beautifully that its overall structural integrity wasn't spoilt - or we believe it is still possible to have a new panel fabricated if a repaired panel is not to your liking.
But apart from that, and some mildew on the stand (again visible in the photo) and a possible need to re-tolex some bits, it looks in very nice condition.
There is one other thing that needs refurbishing: Bruno Spoerri had a Roland System 100 104 Sequencer installed in the 'producer desk' part of the Synthi - see photo. There is now a hole. (You could always bid on the exact same item, which is in the auction - the one without the side panels - and re-install it.)
If it doesn't sell in this auction, then we hope it will be re-furbished and up for sale in future - but not at anything like this price!
This machine is unique, as it was modified in the mid 70s with new filters, additional envelope shapers, inverters, and additional inputs.
It is complete with its dual keyboard (unfortunately not photographed, but in good cosmetic condition), stand, leads, and manuals. Not sure how many patch matrix pins - we will include that info when known. **An estimate of 40 or 50 - we can't get to the location to find out before the auction finishes.**
Working condition is completely unknown. It has not been switched on since it was demonstrated in working order (apart from some tuning, cleaning and calibration needs) at a Dutch music fair in the early 90s.
The good thing with early EMS electronics is that there is very little which is impossible to repair cheaply - almost all parts are off-the shelf components, still available from the right sources.
It is located in France. VEMIA can organise shipping anywhere in the world at cost, to your requirements.
