 Make Synton
 Model Syrinx
Description Serial No: 01357 BB This black Syrinx was purchased second hand by me in 1985 from Chromatix of Ealing Broadway. I had it looked over at this time by Argent’s Keyboards technician. Since then it has not gigged, simply sat on a shelf with other bits and pieces, and been played for my own amusement. It has provided plenty of that. It comes with a manual and patch sheets, mains lead, CV and gate leads and a really solid Bulldog flight case. It has recently been serviced by Tony Allgood of Oakley Sound Systems and his service report and opinions about its internal history are included.* see below*. These seem to point to the fact that before my owning it, various modifications were made to the PCB. Anyway it still makes an extraordinary sound and for string/guitar sounds, the unique function–assignable pressure sensitive pad is just like the vibrato used on a fretboard. FURTHER NOTES AND TONY ALLGOOD'S REPORT:- Any modifications were made before my 1985 purchase. I have never had any problems with it other than old age taking its toll on the recently replaced pots mentioned below. In Tony Allgood’s extremely thorough and sympathetic approach, we basically decided that since the original pot values are no longer produced with a shank to fit the existing knobs, he would keep sets of pot knobs matching, by the work detailed below. We both agreed that as it was not a virgin Syrinx in its original wrapping paper, any mods or their subsequent removal were all just part of the history of this wonderful instrument. Transcript of Service report from Tony Allgood at Oakley Sound Systems 16/11/05 Replace broken resonant filter cut off pot with filter scale pot. Replace now missing scale pot with with new Radiohm pot from OSCar. Cut down shaft to size and fit generic 1/4 inch knob. Replace other filter scale knob with similar style generic knob to match. Remove worn out filter mode rotary switch. Replace with generic Lorlin switch. Cut down shaft and fit generic 6mm knob to suit. Replace non factory toggle switch that had been fitted to select filter moduation source with new one. Tidy up wiring to this switch. Remove toggle that appears to connect CV and pitch bend outputs together erroneously. Tidy up mounting hole and plug with suitable filler cap. Tidy PCB modifications. These mods have been added at some point after it left the factory. There is considerable history here. I am not sure what was added and what use the top left hand toggle was. Some other board had been fitted beneath the CV/ Gate sockets, but had been removed. Many of the mods were messy and there is some sign of past severe overheating around the CV/ gate mod. Replace old and worn sockets with new Rean Parts. Some pots were cleaned with De-Oxit. Other pots still exhibit some signs of wear and these will in time need replacing. Cost of carriage would be buyer’s responsibility.
