 Make Yamaha
 Model EX-42 classic GX-1 predecessor
Description HALF START PRICE FOR A CLASSIC !! From Aphex Twin, Richard D James. One of the most impressive and powerful organs ever - the predecessor (by nearly 5 years) of the GX-1. Its 1970 price was well over 3 million yen - enough to buy several cars? Great sounding and incredibly reliable. With no servicing at all to our knowledge in the last ten years at least, it works beautifully. The only obviously noticeable things are a hum from one of the speaker cabinets, and the fact that a couple of sounds like 'Husky Voice' don't go all the way down the solo keyboard. ***Oops: according to Richard, he has sampled these voices, and they are all working fine.*** But everything else, including the pair of glorious three-driver out-of-sync rotating speakers, functions beautifully - seemingly like it did when new. There are analogue sounds in this machine that nothing else can hope to copy - Wave Motion, for instance, and Singing Vibrato. Amazing analogue percussion sounds. Slide-out tray for preset controls, like the GX-1. Yamaha called it 5-manual - with two main keyboards, solo keyboard, playable rubbon, and pedals. Great number of variations of touch control on some of the keyboards, including side-to-side wiggle. Bench, pedals, all leads, copy manual. Cosmetically very good - some knocks and scuffs to the back and sides of cabinets, but the playing surface is beautiful (9/10), with just a few very minor dings. This classic machine was sold in VEMIA three or four years ago, and fired the buyer (Richard D James) up so much that he eventually went and bought a GX-1 for about ten times the EX-42's price (again at VEMIA !). So the EX-42 is now back in the auction - there's only room in any studio for one 1000 lb giant white fibre-glass monster with massive speaker cabinets. With bench, pedals, leads, and two rotary cabinets It is in central London, with flat easy access. Personal collection with a tail-lift van is obviously the best solution, but crating, shipping and/or delivery are all possible at the buyer's expense.
