 Make Buchla
 Model 300
Description One of only 3 of this model in existence (the 300 series were basically computer controlled 200 systems ) The 300 was then unified into the 'Touché' system of which 3 were built. To say it is a rare system is a mild understatement. Needs work (was working, but then the display stopped working and the keyboard did not respond). I am pretty sure these are repairable things, and have been advised by a Buchla specialist, (who I will pass on to a buyer as a GREAT source of info and repair) that it shouldn´t be a problem to get going again. I think the modules alone are worth the entrance fee! Hybrid instrument. Basically it is a set of 200 modules on the outside controlled by a computer and including a 360 oscillator bank and a set of 300 series cards inside the cabinet. The 200 modules are a 205 matrix mixer, a 206 6 channel mixer, a 292c computer controlled set of 4 lopass gates, a 221 kinesthinetic input (highly complex keyboard with controls for the software) and a patchbay. There is also a Synton dual lag processor / invertor. Then the 300 modules. These include the oscillators (24 digitally controlled oscillators with 8 outputs). And these are Buchla oscillators meaning you have a multitude of timbre possibilities. The internal cards include a program store card, a 64 function generator card (LFO´s, EG´s etc I believe) and many others..... The software had multitrack sequencing and timbre storage. It uses a VDU for displaying the parameters. All this in the late 70´s !!! Anyway, virtually unique and a heart wrench to sell. The 2 modules in the picture bottom right are not included (they are a system 100 mixer and ring mod). The original blanking panel will be in their place ( the system will be sold as it came to me and is a complete system). NB: The owner has now been in contact with an expert in Buchla systems, and has modified thetext as follows:- Buchla 300 Series Electric Music Box Digital/Analogue Hybrid Music system This is a late model Electric Music Box from California electronic instrument designer Don Buchla. Dating from around 1983 this 300 series system includes the very rare 360 Programmable Octal Signal Source (8 Voice Digital Synthesizer with 3 oscillators and a dedicated Buchla Lowpass/Gate per voice) as well as the 364 Multiple Arbitrary Function Generator (16 Sequencers, Voltage Multipliers, and a 256 stage Function Generator suitable for complex envelopes). The 329 Patchbay is provided for communication between the 300 series electronics and external equipment. 200 series modules included in this system are the 221 Kinesthetic Input Port for programming Patch IV (the 300 system software for routing control signals and inputting program data), a 292c Lowpass/Gate for further processing of internal or external audio signals and the 205 Matrix Mixer and 207 Mixer/Pre-amp are provided for mixing the audio signals available at the 360s various audio outputs. The attractive Koa Cabinet provides a nice enclosure for the system and is characteristic of Buchla instruments from this era, similar cabinets were used on the Touche (1979) and the 400 series systems from the early eighties. Other 300 series features are; a video display for visual feedback of the current program data, an XYZ video display for monitoring the activity of the 364 Sequencers/Function Generators, printer output for printing Patch IV data and finally a patch storage system usually with an external tape drive or removable eprom cards for backing up your programs. Few 300 series systems have survived over the last 25 years. The 300 up for auction is one of 3 known systems that incorporates the 360 Octal Signal source. This is a highly complex and innovative electronic instrument and a wonderful investment for a musician or collector. Condition: This instrument currently requires repair. The monitor output has stopped working and there are other various bugs which may require looking into. The item is sold AS-IS, however it is believed that repair is possible. service contacts can be provided upon auction end. This 300 Series System includes: 360 Programmable Octal Signal Source 364 Multiple Arbitrary Function Generator 329 Patchbay 221 Kinesthetic Input Port 292 Lowpass/gate (c version) 205 Matrix Mixer 207 Mixer/Premaplifier 300 Series Koa Cabinet with power supply and internal 300 processor Synton dual lag processor/inverter module NOTE: - The 2 100 series modules in the bottom right next to the touchplate ARE NOT INCLUDED. Blank panels will be supplied to fill the holes. - Monitors as well as user/service manuals are not provided but are available to purchase from third parties.
