 Make Moog
Model *Voyager s/n 002, first ever sold!*
Description This is the very first Minimoog Voyager ever sold, and was the first sale made by the current Moog Music, Inc. While it has serial number 002 (of only 600 Signature models ever made), Moog Music kept serial number 001, and sold to David Mash the first to leave the company. This instrument was hand made (and hand signed by Bob Moog) as one of the first 5 instruments made to develop a new manufacturing process (this is all detailed in a signed memo from Moog President/CEO Mike Adams). It was sent in a prototype stage to David Mash on August 27, 2002 in order that it could be played in the concert Berklee College of Music put on to honor Dr. Moog as part of conferring upon him an Honorary Doctorate of Music degree at the Fall 2002 Opening Student Convocation in Boston, MA. The instrument had to be returned afterward to receive a finalized board and some updated operating software. The original board, hand-written 'OK to 8/27/02', and labeled with the Big Briar name (the name Bob was using before he was able to begin the new Moog Music, Inc using his own name), was returned to me with the upgraded instrument, and this board is included in the package. Also included in the package is an ATA Road case, soft dust cover, the Voyager CV Expander (VX-351) and cable to connect to the Minimoog Voyager, Moogerfooger CP-251 Control Processor joined to the VX351, BNC gooseneck lamp, framed certificate of authenticity, signed by Bob Moog, the original manual, and updates and an updated manual, A letter detailing the instruments origin, and a digital picture of Bob Moog, Mike Adams, Steve Dunnington, and August Worley with the instrument celebrating the shipment of the first product ever sold by the new Moog Music Inc. The instrument is in excellent physical and working condition. It sounds terrific! The wood shows a little evidence of use for its life of 17 years, but has been kept in as good condition as possible. It is hand signed by Bob Moog. It is offered by its original owner, David Mash, who was a close friend of Dr. Moog’s. They worked together during Dr. Moog’s tenure as Senior Vice President of Kurzweil Music (Bob commissioned Mr. Mash to write a User guide to the K250 synthesizer, and acted as his editor). Bob also wrote the forward to Mash’s book 'Macintosh Media Machine.' Mash was a pall bearer at Bob’s funeral, and was one of the invited speakers at his memorial celebration service. Mash is himself a synthesizer pioneer, having worked closely with many of the industry’s leading synthesizer manufacturers since the 1970s, including ARP, Korg, Roland, and Yamaha. Mash founded the Music Synthesis major, now known as Electronic Production and Design at Berklee College of Music in 1984. When Mash retired as Berklee’s Senior Vice President for Innovation, Strategy, and Technology in 2017 after 41 years of service, Moog Music donated a specially crafted Moog IIIc modular system to the college in his honor. The plaque on that instrument reads: 'This Synthesizer is a gift from Christian Halaby and Moog Music in honor of David Mash, a champion for the power of technology to expand the creative potential of all humans.' The college also named an Electronic Production and Design lab after him: 'The Mashine Room.' The Minimoog Voyager is a handcrafted, all-analog performance synthesizer that incorporates the features and incredible sonic range of the original Minimoog, while adding a vast number of new functional improvements to its design. And just like the original Minimoog, the Minimoog Voyager was designed and brought to life by synthesizer pioneer, Bob Moog, and considered to have been his crowning achievement. The Minimoog Voyager Signature Edition is the original Minimoog Voyager. It is housed in a rugged steel chassis that is secured in a stunning, custom finished walnut wood cabinet.

VEMIA note: In our opinion the Voyager was the instrument Bob Moog was most completely involved in of all Moog products since the modulars. Right from the start of the process, he spent a huge number of hours in Europe and of course USA discussing the features it should ideally have.

David Mash has stated that he will give 50% of the proceeds of this sale after expenses and commission to the Bob Moog Foundation. VEMIA will contribute a little to this by charging only 2.5% commission, so that no commission will be taken from the Moog Foundation money.
