JEKI Cosmic AE-7000 BBD/reverb |
| Description |
The JEKI Cosmic AE-7000 is one of those analogue bucket-brigade-delays-meeting-a-spring-reverb units that used to be popular in the late 1970s when digital reverb was waiting far beyond the horizon. Like e. g. the Evans Echopet EP-250 and other off-the-peg models, sold under various brand names, this unit is based around the Panasonic MN3005 BBD chip (the same type that was used with some incarnations of the EH Memorty Man) which produces a very sweet tone: The delayed signal is run through the spring reverb and gets blurred and softened nicely. It boasts controls for Tone, Delay Time, Feedback, Reverb and Echo levels, and two input channels. Cosmetically, the front panel is in nice shape with minor blemishes which can be detected only upon closer inspection. Electronically, it is sound (perhaps a crackly pot here or there) and works the way it should. The spring reverb tank was glued to foam-rubber cushions that had become brittle in the course of the past 40 or so years and were crumbling so they have been replaced with a similar solution. In order to make sure the reverb tank doesn't come off in transit, I built a support which helps to keep it in place – it has no effect on the sound but, of course, it can be removed if the Cosmic is confined to studio use exclusively. |
