Logan Vocalist |
| Description |
The Logan Vocalist. Incredibly rare, and in almost perfect cosmetic condition apart from a little inevitable wear on the upper corners of the wood side panels (definitely justifying being called near-mint) and in full working order. Has a haunting and evocative sound, especially when you tweak the individual volume, vibrato and filter controls in real time. The richly chorussed Tenor and Soprano choir, and the purer solo voice (switchable to tenor or soprano) can all be played simultaneously in up to 6-note polyphony. Each has a unique filter that can be moved to create different vowel sounds like ooh, aah, etc. You can also tweak the vibrato depth and speed of the solo voice in real time for a very effective human voice quality. Nice switchable voice triggering: you can have the top note of each choir chord playing the solo voice all the time - or your right-hand can play the solo voice independently over choir chords in the left hand. This is a unique-sounding instrument, as full of character as a Mellotron choir, but far more expressive due to its wide-ranging real-time tweakability. When I bought this from VEMIA 5 years ago it had just been thoroughly checked over by Lucid Sound. Since then it has only been used in my smoke-free home studio, and had another recent check and cleanup by an experienced synth engineer. If not used for a while, the sliders may need a gentle bit of movement before they become noise-free again, as is typical of synths of this vintage (c.1980). One of the sliders has lost its cap but this should not be hard to replace. Includes the original Logan leatherette carry-case, with one 10cm tear in it, but otherwise very good, zip working well, no rust. NOTE: has been set to operate on 115 volts (100-120 volts OK) and is not difficult to reset to European voltage if needed - or use a transformer. |
