Synthaphone rare monosynth n/p |
Description |
Synthaphone - rare touch-sensitive monosynth
This is so rare I can find nothing on Google about it. However I found (and embellished) this info on page 77 of Peter Forrest's trusty 'A-Z of ANALOGUE SYNTHS, PART 1' - Synthaphone: 37-note (F-F) monosynth with breath control. 1982-84. 'Der kleine Blas-Synthesizer mit dem grossen Klang' ('The little wind synth with the big sound'). 8 presets: Tuba, Horn, Trombone, Trumpet, Sax, Clarinet, Oboe, Flute (the lower-pitched ones definitely have more power, as is common with early preset synths). The Portamento controls are On/Off, Auto (i.e. legato-only or always), Rate. Volume knob, Pitch knob (tunable over about 1.5 octaves!), Touch Sensitivity (for the Touch Vibrato, a fine feature allowing you to rhythmically push down on any key for natural vibrato) and Breath Sensitivity. The last refers to the little breath controller (with small mouthpiece attached to one of two narrow rubber tubes about 18' long) which you can attach to one end of the
keyboard. However the breath control does not appear to be working - may be a small repair needed. I presume it is also for creating vibrato, but who knows - perhaps it controls volume or filtering...? Otherwise this Synthaphone is working fine and in good condition. With a spot of reverb and judicious use of the Portamento and Touch Vibrato, some quite convincing instrument simulations can be performed. Comes with (presumably original) soft case.
