RE-200 rare Space Echo with Reverb |
Description |
RE-200 SPACE ECHO
The classic Roland RE-201 Space Echo is very common worldwide. This model is its much rarer precursor, the RE-200 from 1973. This was the first of Roland's tape echo units to include a spring reverb. It's features are very close to the RE-201, with a couple of important differences: it uses the Sony RE-5 endless tape (the cartridge can be re-loaded with tape, so there's no worries there). More importantly, the Standby switch (also footswitchable) releases the pinch roller from the tape, therefore stopping the tape when it's not needed, and
preventing wear to the tape, guides, heads and capstan. For some reason Roland made subsequent models in a way that the switch only took the heads out of the circuit, but the tape kept running. It means that not only will the tape last much longer than the RE201-501 models, but so will the heads. You can simply leave the RE-200 switched on right through the gig, connected into your rig, and it's only when you press the footswitch or flick the front panel switch when you want the particular echo you have selected (infinitely variable like the RE-201) that the tape actually starts moving. The
motor runs the whole time, so there is no start-up lag - a solenoid simply brings the pinch roller into contact with the tape and capstan and it's instantly away. Brilliant! This item is in very good condition with a little wear and tear (one of the rubber feet on the left side is missing but should easy to replace - if you like storing the RE-200 on its end - not a great idea. The four feet on the base are all present and correct).
