VCS3 & RVG ex Third Ear,Morris Pert |
Description |
A piece of musical history from the classic EMS firm. A Putney (VCS3) in not-great cosmetic condition - no knob inserts, quite a lot of wear to screen-printing - but with a very interesting provenance, and a Random Voltage Generator, pretty rare, and looking in rather better condition.
These will almost certainly need servicing - this is what the owner says (we think he was pleasantly surprised when we said how much we thought it should be worth):-
'I was given the Putney after the passing of Morris Pert -
Scottish Composer and session musician, Brand X, Bush, Gabriel .....
The bottom stencil of Third Ear Band would point to Morris acquiring it from them, late 60s early 70s ? At that time Morris was in the high end rock / jazz / experimental / fusion, Suntreader, Stomu Yamashtu stuff. Quite probable he would buy it given his love and search for new musical sounds. It sat in his wee studio on the Scottish North Coast close on 20 years, never even plugged in.
I put out 6 of Morris albums and worked
closely with him for many years, part of the money raised will put out his last album Chromosphere and keep his web presence there and working.
It is 44 cm long and 44cm high, has 4 red and 15 white pegs.
Lights up when plugged in, generates sound, peg holes and pots seem clean and working.
I would not know how to get anything musical out of it, if you can :-)
Please remember, it is sold AS IS - but Lucid Sound would do a brilliant job of servicing it after the auction if you wanted, and not expensively. |
